Nankei Pottery is the kiln with a history of over 50 years located in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, the region famous for its Banko-yaki pottery. Currently, the company mainly manufactures tea utensils. Banko-yaki is a traditional pottery of this region since the Edo period (1603-1868), and may be generally know for its thin, brown teapots and earthenware pots. Due to the nature of the clay used, it is highly heat-resistant, and many potters continue to pass down their techniques to this day.

Nankei Pottery has been pursuing the expression that is the level of art piece while at the same time seeking a comfortableness that blends in with daily life. Their tea utensils have a stylish, refined form yet with the calm gentleness that enriches your relaxing tea moments.

On the back of the lid of teapots, there is an engraving that reads “万事急須 Banjikyusu”. This is a trademark of Nankei Pottery, and is a wish that even in times of hardship, brew a cup of delicious tea to take a sip, you will “turn misfortune into fortune” (”万事 banji” means “under whatever a circumstance" and “急須 kyusu” means “Japanese teapot” also “休す kyusu” is a homonym for “taking a break”).
