Nankei Pottery・Plate (2set) / Shiro-neri (white)
£52
This 6inch (15cm) diameter plate is made of the same clay as the Sencha kyusu series, a signature product of Nankei Pottery.
Both the rim and the body of the plate are flat. This refined and simple shape gives a clean, modern impression. The matte-textured surface has a slight trowel marks, giving the plate a feel of clay.
The pale beige-gray clay is the Nankei Pottery’s original blend which is the reproduction of a popular clay called “haku-dei” (white mud) used to manufacture kyusu teapots in the Taisho era (1912-1926).
Since no glaze is used, oil marks may remains on the surface, but the texture will settle down as you continue to use over time.
The highly viscous clay is baked at high temperature, so it does not absorb water and leaves no scent. It can be used as a serving dish or dessert plate. Please enjoy using it with matching tea utensils for a variety of occasions.
