Nankei Pottery・Sencha 320 Kyusu / Ao-neri (bluish-gray)
£82
Nankei Pottery's kyusu-pots are designed not only for their beautiful appearance, but also for ease of use. With the shape of the handle, the angle of the spout, and the center of gravity when pouring, all of which are calculated to fit comfortably in hands of anyone.
The stylish bluish-gray color and linear design blend naturally into any room. It might seem flat and shallow but the inside is spacious, allowing plenty of tea leaves to spread out and hot water to flow smoothly. The shape also allows ease for washing and has excellent stability, making your daily tea time more comfortable.
The built-in tea strainer is dome-shaped and made of the same clay as the kyusu itself. After creating its dome shape, the artisan meticulously hand-punches holes one by one. The size of the tea strainer holes are precisely designed to catch the tea leaves firmly and to allow the tiny leaves with good flavor to pass through, so you can brew a delicious cup of tea.
The color is achieved by applying a colorless glaze on the outer surface. When this glaze touches the clay, it turns gray with tinge of slight blue in the kiln. By not glazing the inside, the subtle roughness of the surface moderately reduce the astringency of the tea, resulting in a mellow and delicious taste.
Combining practicality and beauty, this pot is a perfect example of “function and beauty”.
